Barista's work of Latte Art takes out top industry prize

WA Operations Trainer Rie Moustakas has continued Gloria Jean’s Coffees record of success at the Australasian Specialty Coffee Association (AASCA) National Championships, winning the Latte Art category at the 2014 event in Melbourne last weekend.

Competing against eight of the best Latte Art baristas from around the country, Rie’s winning designs included a bouquet of tulips, a singing Quetzal and a five-leaf tulip.

Rie says: “I’m really proud that I am the first Gloria Jean's Coffees representative to win a national Latte Art competition and the first from WA to win – someone from WA has never come in the top three before.”

She will now represent Australia at the World Championships also in Melbourne, next month in May.

“I’m very proud to be representing Australia on the world stage, especially on home territory,” Rie says. “I have lots of training to do before then!”

Rie’s success is the latest accolade for Gloria Jean’s Coffees in recent times following on from Elisha Mauger’s win at last year’s AASCA National Cup Tasting Competition.
